Gershwin’s piano concerto is “re-imagined” by the Marcus Roberts Trio featuring legendary pianist Marcus Roberts, drummer Jason Marsalis, and bassist Rodney Jordan. Hailed as “the genius of the modern piano,” Roberts is known world- wide for his commitment to integrating jazz and classical idioms—much as Gershwin himself did 100 years ago. This fabulous night also features the beautiful Lullaby and the ever-popular musical travelogue An American in Paris.

Debussy’s impressionistic masterpiece paints a landscape of mysterious serenity. We then glimpse a beatific “land without evil” in Scofano’s gor- geous tone poem based on Guaraní folklore. Finally, Brahms’s masterful Symphony No. 1 takes us on a journey from darkness to light, complete with one of the best-known melodies in all of classical music.

From the heroic themes of Star Wars to the enchanting melodies of Harry Potter, the concert showcases the wide range of musical styles that have made John Williams the world’s most performed living composer. With the stirring sounds of a live orchestra, "The Magic of John Williams" promises an unfor- gettable experience for fans of film music and orchestral magic.

Bartok’s lively Romanian Folk Dances kick off the program, which closes with Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony—a hymn to nature filled with birdsong, babbling brooks, a thunderstorm, and even a German hoedown. Guest Artists: R. Carlos Nakai, Native American flute & Leah Glenn Dance Theatre

We open with the soul-stirring melodies of the Native American flute from the legendary R. Carlos Nakai. Honoring local history, we present the world premiere of "Tewe:iahle" We Remember by GRAMMY©-nominated composer Dawn Avery, featuring Leah Glenn Dance Theatre. This unique collaboration celebrates the indigenous peoples who attended this school and inhabited the land that is now part of the campus of William & Mary.

The season draws to a dramatic close with Dvorak’s beloved “New World Symphony,” overflowing with influences from European, African American, and Native American musical traditions. Join us for a concert that celebrates cultural heri- tage and the universal language of music that unites us all.
